Yesterday the HP CEO Meg Whitman has just announced to all of the company’s employees that HP will make webOS’s { Palm WebOS } underlying code available under an open-source license. So HP is going to be active on the development of WebOS by collaborative support of open source community and they believe that there is something special in opensource which could make their OS and apps much better. According to HP's blog post

"WebOS offers a number of benefits to the entire ecosystem of web applications. For developers, applications can be easily built using standard web technologies. In addition, its single integrated stack offers multiplatform portability. For device manufacturers, it provides a single web-centric platform to run across multiple devices. As a result, the end user benefits from a fast, immersive user experience."

But the development of WebOS was a buissness with loss for HP since HP had lost about $3 Million in the development process before WebOS was converted to open form, Open Source. “webOS is the only platform designed from the ground up to be mobile, cloud-connected and scalable,” said Meg Whitman, HP president and chief executive officer. “By contributing this innovation, HP unleashes the creativity of the open source community to advance a new generation of applications and devices.” Although HP is gonna develop Palm WebOS under the license of open source and the all developers with talent will be able to add their own contributions and enhancements to this OS since it has become an free coded OS. And if you are a developer you can start seeding your ideas from Here . HP also will contribute ENYO, the application framework for webOS, to the community in the near future along with a plan for the remaining components of the user space. Anyway let us hope it will help to build up open source community as well as HP Palm OS.
